Oh my Venus! Drama that convince to exercise

Looking for an interesting series for the long weekend in May, I went through several "lists of the best Korean series" posted on You-tube. Good 80% of those lists mentioned "Oh my Venus" as lovely and worth watching. Therefore I followed those advice, turned on Netfix and looked for it.

So there we go....
The first scenes show the amazingly beautiful Kang Ju-Eun, with whom every boy in school is in love. But Ju-Eun is not only beautiful but also very smart. When she grows up, she wants to become a lawyer and says, "Nothing can stop her. If she makes up her mind, she'll achieve it." The years go by and Venus of Daegu never changes. Next is John Kim, whose Korean name is Young-Ho. Handsome and well-trained John is the personal trainer of Hollywood stars and falls into a big scandal. His wealthy family orders him to return to Korea immediately to reduce the spread of rumors.

The trainer and the lawyer meet on the plane under very embarrassing circumstances - currently chubby Kang Ju-eun faints due to the pressure of the corset and the alcohol she drank on board. The passenger next to her, young and cute Kim Ji Woong, calls for his friend John Kim who's licensed in alternative medicine. Mr. Kim cuts the corset off and Venus recovers in few minutes. She is totally ashamed that such a handsome man saw her fat body in the first seconds of theirs acquaintance! When John Kim returns to his insanely wealthy family, Ju-eun collides with the betrayal of his longtime partner with his high school best friend. Oh Soo Jin went from being an extremely obese girl to a stunningly beautiful lawyer and (which turns out later) Kang's new supervisor. Venus decides to finally take care of herself and hires John Kim to help her lose weight.

The love story between the trainer and his mentee begins somewhere during training sessions and coincidental meetings in private time. The scenes with the main characters are cute but not overly too sweet. The focues very much on Kang's obesity and the diseases it caused, as well as on Kim's continued recovery from childhood trauma. Both characters show that you must fight for health and not give up. I felt in love with them becuae of that. Their stubbornness, openness and determination could convince many to exercise - they did convince me!πŸ˜† - but not necessarily the sterile and tasteless diet that John Kim follows πŸ˜’

All the supporting characters, Jang Joon-sung, Kim Ji-woong, Oh Soo-jin and Im Woo-shik, are very diverse and bring freshness to the show and make it more multi-dimensional. They refer to the problems of violence, the happiness that can be achieved in meeting the right people and brotherly love.

The series is not perfect. A few stories could be better presented or explained in more depth like the backgroung of Kim Ji-Woong which remains the great unknown. Despite those flaws, this kdrama is very pleasant and positive to watch! πŸ‘Œ

What I like the most about "Oh my Venus" is that clichΓ©s of kdramas doesn't make it drown in the depths of the kdrama market. Of course we have here broken but rich Kims and poor but strong Kangs, accident and temporry break up of leading couple. But who cares! The story is still original, no other kdrama I saw was all about losing weight πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Is "Oh my Venus" worth watching?
OH YES IT IS!
