Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung as my first costume kdrama

As the title states, Rookie Historian was my first costume drama and I already know that it won't be last! Goo Hae-Ryung introduced me to Joseon times and I want more! Her character stole my heart. Already here I can recommend this drama with all my heart. Believe me, you won't be disappointed 😍 Just bring you tea, sit down and get ready for a fantastic time, great laugh and many plot twists.

History is set somewhere in Joseon times when female historians are a newly created job category and where men cannot cope with it. Briliant Goo Hae-Ryung breaks every society rules and aims to be the perfect historian. She is so great in it that convinces even her male co-workers that women are as much worth as they are. On top of that she proofes that Prince Yi Rim is someone more that meets the eye 😉

Who is Hae-Ryung and Yi-Rim?
Prince Dowon is 20 yo handsome man that has been living his whole life in pavilion completly separated from the royal Court. Prince Yi Rim is widely known under the pen name of Maehwa, the romance writer. He meets free-spirited and well educated Goo in the bookstore where she goes over his latest book with very hard critic. Little she knows, that the man that she speaks to is the Prince that she will work with in few days.

The numerous flash-backs across the serie shows former king, medical school and a coup led by the chief councilor of the present king. The meaning of these stories develops as the show grows. Mysterious characters make sense and step by step we learn how connected the main characters are by their fate. As in most kdramas, the leading characters do not like each other at first and only start to appreciate each other over time. No other here. With time the couple experiences many adventures, dramas, love and affection and also discover a story that changes the course of history.

The story is addictive and numerous humorous moments unload it' s electrifying atmosphere. It touches many interesting topics, such as the reaction of Koreans to Western science and the level and nature of women's education in the Joseon era. To be honest, Rookie Historian easily fits in the latest "female empowerment" movement 😅 The main character is exceeding her times in many ways. I love the contrast between delicate, naïve and romantic Rim and bold, strong and indepentend almost XXI centrury woman Hae-ryung. Greately performed characters!

From now on Shin Se-Kyung and Cha Eun-Woo are my top actors and must find other dramas with them. Any propositions? 😁
