My first Taiwanese drama - Triad Princess

It was quite a strange drama. I don't know what else to say about it. I mean, actors were good, story too, background impressive so it had what neede to be my first Taiwanese drama that would invite me to watch more. Unfortunately after what I saw it, t-drama for now is not going to join this blog. Netflix wanted to do something new but failed.

What is going on in Triad Princess?
As the title says, there is a princess raised by mafia and as we all can imagine, she is fed up with it. Angie Ni craves for an independent life and do what others normals do. She was growing up in the shadows of her triad boss father and tragicaly dead mother. One day, after another quarrel with her father about an arranged marriage, she runs away from home and starts to work as an undercover bodyguard for a famous actor (aka one-side love of her life). Now Angie must quickly learn to navigate the unfamiliar world.

All in all the drama was not bad. It had a potential to be a good show but they ruined it by making it a mini-serie. I still can't believe that Netflix released a serie with only 6 episodes (+/- 35 min each) and kinda ended it with a giant cliffhanger 💥😱😡 That "ending" could easily be transformed into the core of love-action drama because the episodes that we were presented with felt like only beginning of the actual story. In this way it all look dislocated and rushed (?), as one person said in the comments on MyDramaList.

Primary characters

Angie (Eugenie Liu) with Xu Yi Hang (Jasper Liu) did a very good job in creating their characters. They were convincing and looked good together. I really like them both 💏 The combo of gangster's daughter and cheesy actor love story got me at once. I knew it will be fun drama. But if I would have to choose between these 2, I would definately pick Angie. Eugenie did a hell out of the job in portraying this fierce princess. As here was only 6 episodes 😤😤 their relationship had to go from 0 to 100 in seconds. In one moment they just meet each other, she is amazed as her idol is just next to her; few moments later he is falling in love with her and in the blink of the eye they are love-dead. Nope... Me.No.Like.

Secondary characters

All of the secondary characters never had their backgrounds properly explained. The only thing we know about the guy (Tsao Yu Ning as Jin Yan Bin/Eddie Kim) that Angie suppose to marry is that they met in the past and she didn't like him. Suddenly he appears in one of the episodes and make some perturbations. Of more important secondary characters we have Lin Gui (Chang Tsai Hsing) who we think is just ineffective employee of triad boss but then we get to know that he adopted him 💥 Nothing more said about him. He was 100% gay without any simplification or omission of facts. Great approach and it's a pity that Koreans in at least 10% do not approach concept that way. There is one character that appears in almost every episode, but we know as much as nothing about her (surprise surprise) - Sophia. She is Yi Hang's manager and friend of Ni's family.

Characters mentioned, and many other, are very diverse and give the series a lot of dimensions. There are not only tough guys and pretty dolls. There is a juggling of characters and styles. I really liked this aspect of Triad Princess ... and again IT IS SUCH A PITY THAT THE DRAMA ISN'T LINGER SO WE COULD LEARN ABOUT ALL CHARACTERS 😖

Story was cool, had it's potential but I agree with one other commend on MyDramaList: "Who was the guy who decided to turn a 20 episode Taiwanese drama into a 6 episode one? With episodes of only 40 minutes? Where does that guy live? And why does he still have a job?" Now when I watched it and read that there is no word about second season I am even more angry on producers. If Netflix eventually decides to release more episodes, I will be more that happy to watch 😇😁
