W - two worlds

Oh.... How I was looking forward to writethis review because it was the greatest emotional rollercoaster I have ever experienced in my drama-life! Those who created this series have an amazing imagination and probably kilometer-long walls with notes about individual scenes because the pace of action unfolding was as insane as the way how all elements were connected at the end of drama. Nodoubtly the shows that take place in two parallel worlds are both great and mentally exhausting 😲 W is epic and I would recommend it to everyone 🙌

World no 1: our everyday world. Oh Yeon Joo is a cardiothoracic better known for her father who writes the highly popular webtoon than for his skills. While she is great at what she for living, her private life is not the most exciting. Things change their course when no one can find her father, just before the webtoon is finished. One day Yeon Joo goes to his office looking for clues where can he be, but a mysterious bloody hand suddenly pulls her into the monitor 😱

World no 2: Yeon Joo magicaly appears to be on the rooftop of a building, next to a dying young man. She manages to save the person but he is oddly similar to the main character of the webtoon of her father. After spending few hours in the new place, Yeon Joo realizes that it is not her world any more and the person she saved is Kang Cheol in his full glory. Although what shockes her more is that she can enter and leave webtoon only depending on his feelings 😏

Thus, the two worlds are connected. Two people who have nothing in common must find out how Kang Cheol's family was killed and how Yeon Joo can get out of the webtoon. Over time, the characters get to know each other more and more, exchange dreams and, without noticing a strong bond grows between them 💜 Time flows differently in comics than in the real world. The character have to fight not only with the division into worlds but also with the division into chapters and only selected moments when Yeon Joo can enter the world of webtoon. However, love can overcome a lot 😍😎

W was certainly one of the more incredible drama I lately saw and there are many reasons for that. Producers and writers have shown the greatest craft in script and pairing the actors with the roles. Bringing comic character and his whole world to life was a bold move but they way they executed it was bolder.

There is a lot going on in the show, at times it's confusing and borders on being nonsensical, but it’s logical enough when you reach the end. Then eveything magicaly is paired and glued together. W is so intriguing in its unpredictability that solving the mystery becomes your new addiction 💘 I was so determined to see that will happen next that couldn't stop watching till 4 a.m. on Sunday night (luckly I''m not working on Mondays!😆). I undeniably fell in love with W, although it caused me neurosis and ruined my everyday routine 😅😂

Time for some critics. The drama, although great at its overall, when we look separately on the storyline, characters and execution. They are not on the same level. Unfortunately I am forced to rate W on 8 out of 10. From the show's abstract you would expect vulcano of emotions between Kang Cheol and Yeon Joo but in the end their chemistry is not strong enough to make me fall in love with them as a couple. They are not Yoon Se-ri & Ri Jeong Hyeok from Crash Landing on You or Lee Yeon & Yi Ah-Eum from Tale of the Nine Tailed 😕 Don't get me wrong, Kang Cheol and Yeon Joo look great together but something was missing. I don't know if that was the fault of the script or the actors themselves.... They were cute and adorable but the spark was not exactly there.

Luckly! That lack of spark didn't influence much the show itself. The idea of blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction was incredible and thanks to talented actors it was possible to execude. This cannot be taken from the actors, the leads have great talent. Lee Jong Suk played the role of a comic book ideal - handsome, rich, dangerous and with a strong sense of justice. You could feel is desperacy to live when he gets to know that his world is not "real". These scenes are touching and emotional that you just want them to reach that happy ending finally for god's sake!

One sentence about secondary characters - they are bland and are more a background than giving anything to the story.

To sum up. Cast- 7/10, screenplay & music - 8/10 and execution 9/10. I know that the last part of the review seems to be just a gloom talk but I was just hoping from something more between the leads than cutenes and crying. Some sexy scenes are needed here 😅😇😈 Once again: I'm recommending this remotional rollercoaster! No bland secondary character or lack of spark will take that away. Story of Kang Cheol and Yeon Joo is totally worth watching 😍
