My Lovely Liar

My Lovely Liar you were ๐Ÿ’œlovely๐Ÿ’œ I know it's a drama with a murder in the background, but it was so light, smooth and fantastic to watch that it was a shame to end such a well-made drama. It totally falls into the group of sevens ๐ŸŒธ

This is one of the better dramas I have seen in recent months. It has a well-thought-out plot, good main characters and strong secondary characters and stories. I've binge watched first 4 episodes and it felt really good. The story is unique and the suspense part in the starting episodes made it interesting enough to got me hooked. Also the lie detecting idea felt oddly good ๐Ÿ˜… Every Monday gave me special hope as new episode was coming out!

Whose such a liar?

Kim Do Ha is a composer who creates some hits for singer Syaon. He is widely known in the music industry but no one has ever seen his face. Only the owner of the agency J Entertainment and the singer know him privately and know why he is hiding. Unfortunately, over time, the suspicion that he is a murderer returns to light. In the town where Do Ha is hiding, lives Mok Sol Hee. Her uniqueness comes from her ability to hear lies. Sol Hee superpower has left her alienated as she has no faith in people. She comes to a shock when she meets Do Ha and realizes that her new neighbor appears to be the only person in the world her superpower does not work as suppose to. For each other, they are what they were looking for - an escape from persecution and lies, respectively. Together they set out on a journey to find out what actually happened to Kim Do Ha's ex.

Everyone knows why it's so easy to start watching this drama.... HWANG MIN HYUN! He is THE reason ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ His role as Seo Yul in Alchemy of Souls was so incredible that it was impossible to ignore another show with him. Of course, Jang Uk was my favorite (how not), but Seo Yul was a (very) very worthy runner-up....  unfortunately to compare it to My Lovely Liar his performance her felt a little short.

Min Hyun gives an impression that his character forgot about facial expressions and intonation. Do ha is the same throughout most scenes and episodes. One can be stoic, but in this series, where most of the actors played quite expressive characters, the male lead blended into the background ๐Ÿ˜“ But! He fits perfectly into the female lead! Who was also very stoic and neutral ๐Ÿ˜… In this respect, these two are made for each other. They happen to become the healthiest relationship ever ๐Ÿ’› I am happy it ended well for them!

Overall, the acting throughout the series was of a high standard ๐Ÿ‘Œ Yes, the main characters were quite neutral and calm considering the situation they found themselves in, but looking at it again, it seems to be more intentional. Anyway, Do Ha tried to blend in with the crowd for several years, and Sol Hee avoided people because she heard people lying everywhere. I kinda expected more from them but that's ok, the story made it up for me ๐Ÿ˜

Moving on to the secondary characters. Lee Si Woo created great singer-character, Syaon and caught my eye. I honestly can't wait to see her somewhere in a main role ๐Ÿ‘Œ Coming back to expressive characters for a moment, Choi Eom Ho, the brother of the late Eom Ji, was another great character. His pain and desperation were palpable through the TV screen. Already in Military Prosecutor Doberman he played an impressive character, but here .... he took it to a completely different level! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ In the meantime, the character of Lee Kang Min (Seo Ji Hoon), aka the Sol Hee's ex, seemed a bit unnecessary to me in the main story line. The momentary love triangle was a bit out of place.

The character who caused the most confusion and made the drama so engaging and amazing is Jo Deuk Chan (Yun Ji On), the owner of J Entertainment. The plot twist with him in the main role was almost magical. I would never have imagined that a character like him could pull off such a stunt. ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™‰๐Ÿ™Š And I'm not even mad at him for it! I have accepted it just like that .... I couldn't surprise myself with it more ๐Ÿ˜…

My Lovely Liar gets from me strong 7 out of 10 points becoming a really strong production. Where did it lose those 3 points? ๐Ÿ˜ One - Sol Hee's gift was a bit far-fetched and got lost in leads' romance. For most of the drama I felt that her detecting the lies depends too much of a questions and might not reflect the actual situation. The concept took off again just with murder case coming into the light. Two - the stoic characters weren't my favorite. No matter how you look at it, the drama is great. It started strong, the mystery and plot twist were awesome and it ended really well ๐Ÿ’–

Last thing.... Did anyone notice the similarity between the poster of My Lovely Liar places at the begininng of the review and the Kiss The Goblin poster... someone was too inspired ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I haven't seen the gobin drama yet but I think this is God sent sign to watch it after Destined With You finale ๐Ÿ˜‡
