The King. 2 Hearts. - the history I wish to happen

I must say, that it even though it is serie from 2012 I really enjoyed it.

I was sceptical because watching in 2020 serie or a movie from 2012 is quite challenging. Due to the lack of reference to the level of technology, events or/and fashion. This is often more fun than addictive. It was not uncommon for me to be distracted by such elements in scenes in older films. I was afraid that it would be the same here. I was pleasantly surprised!

The fast pace of the series, developed script, great acting and visible chemistry between the leads, do not allow for a longer look at the flip-phone or at the interesting fashion solutions 😅

What is The King. 2 Hearts about?

It is a love story of south korean prince Lee Jae-Ha and north korean military officer Kim Hang-Ah, who meet as part of the warming of relations between their countries and their task is to represent Korea (as a whole) in the military officers championship. The cooperation between the two countries is to show the world that they do not want to live under the constant shadow of war and that they are on the progressive path to unification. This entire operation is led by the prince's older brother, King Lee Jae-Gang (and of course by north korean leaders but they are bit less significant for me), whose dream, ever since he saw the fall of the Berlin Wall, is to unite Korea.Their first days of preparation for the competition cannot be called "cooperation". Officers cannot get along, an additional enemy appeard and the rest of the participating countries are becoming less and less in favor of Korean participation.

About the main characters. Prince Jae-Ha isn't serious about anything apart from ladies and his look. Meanwhile Hang-Ah is an exceptional soldier who searches for a good husband. Unlike the prince, Hang is respected wherever she goes. Strongly antagonistic at first, the characters start to convince themselves of each other with time. It was helped by entering into an arranged marriage, which was the evil plan of the enemy of the development of Korean unification. The plan didn't work out like John Mayer (Korean name Kim Bong-Goo) had imagined. The decision of the main pair united the nations and allowed them to participate in the competition. John Mayer didn't stay on just one set. He gave the newlyweds a small hell with another civil war in the background.

The 20 episodes of the drama are full of action and emotional rollercoaster. Characters, especially the spoiled prince, grow up and transform in front of our eyes. This is not the first show where Korea is shown as a monarchy, but it is the first time the action takes place in such a political world. Personally, I really like TV shows with a political tinge and combining it with a love story totally bought me.

Reasons to not to skip The King - 2 hearts:
  • Lee Sung-Min plays an epic role of King of South Korea. He creates such a wonderful personality that you want to hug him and join his actions. His death at quite the begining of the serie was terrible but had to happen, he wasn't the main character.
  • The presented story has so many twists that it is impossible to stop watching it. I know what I'm saying! I saw all the drama in 3 days!
  • The attraction between the main characters and then their passionate fights are drawing to the couch
  • It is the story that we all wish to happen. Because who would not want 2 countries to be joined by love and marriage of 2 people in the history of the modern world! 💖
  • An additional romance between the princess and the bodyguard further fuels the atmosphere 😎
  • A presentation of how North Korea works and what its connections with China are (maybe exaggerated, but there is always a grain of truth in such stories
And now the most important point.... THE SMILE OF LEE SEUNG-GI IS JUST KILLING!

The King. 2 Hearts. is for me must to watch.
World would be such an amazing place if this story would take place.
