The Secret Life of My Secretary

I have found this drama by accident while searching for "What's wrong  with secretary Kim?" and watched it without any regrets 👌 It would seem that when you lie down with severe bronchitis, nothing will make you come alive better than syrup or hot broth but this show did a really great job! Story was fresh and unique and convinced my brain and body to focus on something else than coughing and sleeping 😁 

What is it about? 

The story goes about perfectionist Do Min Ik and his secretary Jung Gal Hee replaying on every of his needs. Gal Hee has been working for her boss for a while and is as recognizable as he is within the company. But it's not because of her status, but the way she dresses and the constant hustle and bustle. Do Min Ik is a confident man with a heart of stone who doesn't go out on dates, doesn't want to be in a relationship with anyone ... until 😉 A series of cases causes Chief Do Min Ik to confuse the beautifully dressed Jung Gal Hee with the daughter of local business champion, Veronika Park. The subsequent meetings between Chief and both women (sort of) make him fall in love with Veronica and Gal Hee with him. The question now is how to tell him that Veronica is not Veronica but his secretary?!

 

Maybe Do Min Ik and Jung Gal Hee started their relationship with cheating, what they built in the boss-secretary relationship was beautiful and unique. If not, they would not be together. The actors played their roles well, but they didn't steal my heart like Veronika Park did 😍💘 I liked Veronica since the first moment. Her character was comfortably annoying and gave the show different dynamics. She was refreshing, amusing and suprisingly supporting was towards the leads. 

Many said in the reviews that they had it hard to cheer for the protagonist as she pretend to be someone else and took advantage of his illness. I get it it was not nice of her, but from the other side did she do it to gain something? No. She wanted to help him and I cannot blame her for that. 😁

The thing that was more annoying what the akwardness of their relationship. Min Ik mentioned that he had previous relationships but they were weirded out by just holding hands or hugging .... In the first episodes we could see that they were quite relaxed about being close but now, when they are together it is so weird? Producers fucked here someting up 😤

In overall I really liked the serie but if I would have to compare it to other dramas.... eh it wouldn't go high. Actors where good, plot too, music and ambiance as well but something was missing. It didn't have that special something that would make me to convince you to watch it right away. As said before - it allowed me to not to think about being stuck in bed but there was no wow factor in it 😕

What I liked tho, was that they gave the prosopagnosia trope - disease that prevents the eyes and brain from processing the appearance of the face and thus not recognizing people - a bit more deepth. Although amnesia and all other illnesses are often used in drama 😅 they approached it a bit differently. More human because they showed how important part of our everyday life are the faces of others and the emotions written on them. Because we have here not only Chief Do Min Ik who does not separate Veronica from his secretary, but also her brother who is blind. For both of them, eye problems are difficult to accept (who would be easy for them?), And talking to each other and the right environment helps them to do so. People base their lives on emotions that we feel and see what others do with it. When you can't recognize people around you, it sets you back as you don't now if that person is a friend or a foe.

It's also one of those serieses where they speak about sick work environments and unhealthy relations between emplyers and their maids, secretaries, drivers and so on. I won't speak more about it as it could ruin to watch the drama 😇

Summary.

Good drama with good cast and fresh script. I'm giving it 6/10, it's not extraordinary but reccomendable and won't waste your time. Ideal for lazy watching during the lockdown but if you search for an action - have a look at Mystic Pop-Up Bar.
